Sumbel of Kindred - Moonstead Sumbel
The Host/Hostess fills the Sumbel Horn with Mead.The Sumbel Horn is then blessed, and some mead is poured out as libation; at His/Her feet. The Host/Hostess of the Sumbel (while holding the Sumbel Horn high), says:
I am the Son/Daughter of this land!
I am the Father/Mother of this hofstead!
I am He/She who holds the bragarfull!
While passing the Sumbel Horn (at least once around):
Hail each of the Gods and the Goddesses within the memory of all gathered.
While passing the Sumbel Horn (at least once around):
Hail the deeds of the Ancestors and the Heroes within the memory of all gathered.
While passing the Sumbel Horn (at least once around):
Make your Oaths. Sing your Songs. Speak your Poetry. Say your Dreams.
At the end of the last passing; the Host/Hostess pours out some mead, as libation; at His/Her feet. The Sumbel Horn is blessed, once more. The Host/Hostess of the Sumbel (while holding the Sumbel Horn high), says:
We are the Kindred to this land!
We are the Keepers of this hofstead!
All are Wihaz who drink the bragarfull!
(NOTE: The Sumbel Horn will need refilling throughout the rite, so it helps to have extra mead on hand…
Traditionally, everyone brings mead and/or food to share.)
