Hi Past UMPA Supporters,
I am helping the UMPA board , the Upper Midwest Pagan Alliance, put
together a celebration of 6 years existence Saturday Feb. 9th, 2013; A
celebration, a food offering, a concert, and its biennial organizational
meeting and elections event. Two years ago we had a spaghetti cook off
contest, with a band playing, and raised over $700, and found some
new life for the organization. Since then the funds have been used up in
supporting highway cleanups, packages sent to Pagan soldiers, a
leadership skills workshop, and other service activities to the needy ...
and mainly $400 to become a federal 501c4 service corporation.
About 75 people attended in 2011 and for $15 could join UMPA, get a free
meal to rate for the contest, and vote in elections... or else pay $5 at the
door for a meal and the music, and enjoy a midwinter social occasion.
Many groups and/or their members as individuals (over 300), have either
financially supported UMPA, or participated in its events since 2007. Slowly
participation has dwindled to the point of just a few people regularly
participating. Does this mean UMPA is no longer needed? We don't know.
Rather than go out with a whimper, if that is the case, we would rather go
out with a bang! This is an opportunity for supporters of community service
and Pagan soldiers to gather in fellowship, share stories, and in the end
discuss the future of UMPA; and either find some new leadership, or fold and
pass on any funds raised to another non-profit.
On February 9th, UMPA will have the same type of event, this time with a
chili and corn bread cook off meal, with Kari Tauring performing. Judy Olson
/Harmony Tribe, Don Ament/Standing Stones, and an anonymous baker are
already committed to provide food. Details are still being developed, but it
will be from about 4-7pm, and either in Fridley, or at a S. MPLS facility.
UMPA needs your support. You can do this by:
~ Making sure your members hear about this event, as it is publicized
or
~ attending personally and joining as a new member and helping direct the
future of the organization, http://www.umpaganalliance.com/joinus.shtml
or
~ just attending for the meal and the celebration, and adding your presence
in support!
More important than donating (a few hundred dollars can basically fund the
organization for 2 years) is answering the question, "Do you want an
established organization dedicated to community service to continue, and
if so, what is its best role, and can you help it get there?"
If you wish to be a "Sponsor" of the event, in the name of your organization
(or personally) you can:
~ Make a batch of chili, or corn bread (to feed at least 50 in a tasting
serving) for the meal service and participate in the competition. (and serve
it at the event, to 'win' , bring your culinary skill and supporters! )
or
~ commit at least one person from your organization to help out with set up,
take down, meal service, and dishes.
or
~ donate at LEAST $25 to UMPA by Jan 6th,
http://www.umpaganalliance.com/donate.shtml
If you are a listed sponsor, :
~ We will list you as such in all publicity, and on the UMPA website.
(publicity begins Jan. 7th!)
~ You can attend, bring promotional materials for your group, store, or
cause, and network with attendees.
~ If you become a member at the event, you can vote in the organizational
election and help decide the direction of UMPA, and any funds raised,
going forward.
......the sooner you commit, the sooner your commitment can get included in
event advertising!
**Note, we will ask everyone to donate $5, or become a member at the door
for the event funding even if helping out at the event. UMPA needs to pay
for space rental, food service items, and entertainment*
Please respond by Jan. 6th 2013, to be listed in initial promotion.
